Some homes are just more easily cared for than others. The colonial ranch brick home at 1055 Carolyn in Jackson is an example of classic style that requires very little maintenance effort.

The home sits on a level, double lot. Perennials give shots of color across the emerald green lawn that is neatly and simply landscaped. Well-established trees offer a cozy home to the legions of birds that offer their songs in this quiet neighborhood. The front porch, with its classic white pillars, offers the perfect relaxing place to enjoy it all.

This home is decorated with a country flair, though each of the rooms starts with neutral basics -- light walls and carpeting, making it easy for anyone to add personalized touches. The living room has a large picture window overlooking the spacious front yard.

The kitchen is very generously proportioned, with a cream and light blue tile-look linoleum, and walnut cabinetry with antique brass and porcelain pulls. The light gold countertop offers another soothing splash of color. Custom built-in cabinetry offers extra counter, cabinet and drawer space. A glass-fronted cabinet is a nice setting for favorite glassware and dishes. A handy breakfast bar divides the kitchen and dining spaces.

The adjoining informal dining room also has that slowed-down country feel, with an oak chair rail running the perimeter of the room, along with a charming watering can and berries wallpaper border. Small shelves on the wall offer the perfect place for family photographs or collectibles.

A sliding glass door leads to a patio that has the perfect combination of sun and shade. The large back yard stretches with a split rail fence at its rear perimeter. A small barn-shaped shed adds extra space for storing lawn tools.

Also on the main floor is a bathroom with a long vanity and large mirror. The mirror is framed with an engraved oak trim. The bathroom also features a tub/shower and separated toilet area, as well as a large linen closet.

One of the main level rooms could be used as either a bedroom or office. Each of the three main level bedrooms have a good amount of natural light and built-in cabinetry and drawers. This home also has a finished basement with a large family room, including a brick gas log fireplace that is capable of heating the entire house, though the home is also equipped with a high-efficiency furnace and water heater. A chunky, rough-hewn mantle gives this fireplace a handsome rustic charm. The family room offers plenty of space for a large screen television or game table. A downstairs laundry and hobby room also includes a kitchenette with a double stainless steel sink and range. The downstairs also includes a bathroom with a step-in shower. Another room here could be used as either a bedroom, office, or exercise room.

This home also has plenty of storage space, with an unfinished storage area and workshop downstairs, and an exit to the back yard. One storage room has a built-in system for storing wrapping paper and other seasonal items.
