  • Danielle Thurston of Ullin, Ill., and Matt Huber of Jackson, both students at Southeast Missouri State University, received a Jim Wilkins Excellence in Education scholarship for their accomplishments in human resources and their campus and community activities.
  • Russell Hoffman of Cape Girardeau received a Denison Founders scholarship from Denison University in Granville, Ohio.

HONORS

  • The following Cape Girardeau Central High School orchestra members made the 2008 Southeast Missouri District Honor Orchestra. The orchestra will perform at 4 p.m. Saturday in Central High School's band room.

SCHOOL NEWS

  • The Cape Girardeau Career and Technology Center will dedicate its annex to the late Martin Jansen at 4 p.m. Nov. 6. The 12,000-square-foot annex opened in August 2007 and houses the center's electrical trades and cabinet making programs. The school board approved naming it after Jansen in July. Jansen was president of Columbia Construction Co. until 2000.
