the uss cairo was built in mound city il.she was commissioned 1/25/1862 she was on tour in the yazoo river and hit a confederate mine and sunk 12/12/1862.she was raised 8/13/1964 out of the yazoo river' and took to the vicksburg miss. national military park.. she is being totally restored in a resting place of her own. there is a museum there also at vicksburg millitary park with alot of her artifacts in it also......
