Cape Girardeau Central High School principal Dr. Mike Cowan was honored as Principal of the Year for the Southeast Region of the Missouri Association of Secondary School Principals at the organization's recent convention at Lake Ozark, Mo. Cowan is in his eighth year as principal at Cape Girardeau Central High School and in his 34th year of public education. He oversaw the move from the former high school building on Clark Avenue to the current building on Silver Springs Road that holds 1,300 high school students and 145 faculty members. Before arriving at Central in 2001, Cowan was principal of St. Louis County's Valley Park High School for eight years.
