Scholarships

* Applications are available for the SEMO District Fair Foundation Educational Scholarship, which is awarded annually to an applicant from the fair service area. The $1,000 award is nonrenewable and will be paid directly to the college or university. It is open to any student enrolled in a two- or four-year Missouri college for a least 12 credit hours and who has a grade-point average of 2.5 or equivalent. Applicants also must have exhibited at the SEMO District Fair. Application forms are available at www.semofair.com/scholarship.htm. The completed application has to be returned to Edwin Peetz, 1003 County Road 332, Jackson, MO 63755, by May 30.

* Spencer N. Baldwin, formerly of Jackson, received a U.S. Army Reserve Officer Training Corps four-year scholarship that is awarded to students at John Hardin High School in Elizabethtown, Ky. He will attend Bellarmine University in Louisville, Ky.

* Neely D. Tetley of Chaffee, Mo., received a Missouri Assessment Program Scholarship to attend Southeast Missouri State University for the 2010-2011 academic year.

Honors, achievements

* Oran High School will be recognized for having one of the best educational campaigns in the Missouri Department of Transportation's Battle of the Belt competition. More than 200 schools participated statewide and Oran completed a 94.6 percent usage rate among high school students. There will be an award ceremony at the high school with the Missouri State Highway Patrol today at 12:30 p.m.
