Grand opening festivities planned for Discovery Playhouse

The Discovery Playhouse in Cape Girardeau will host its grand opening celebration from 1 to 5 p.m. today. The celebration will include street musicians, Hooked on Science demonstrations from Jason Lindsey, magic by Darrin Davis, face painting and art projects. The Anti-Litter Critter will be taking pledge forms from children to become an Anti-Litter Critter and the first 250 children to sign a pledge form will receive a free T-shirt. Jeanne Churchill of Capaha Bank and Sandy Hoffman of MedAssets are teaming up this year to host the second annual Mouse Race for Multiple Sclerosis research, programs and services. The MS mouse race will be at the Dockside in Cape Girardeau, with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. and the races beginning 7:30. Advance ticket prices are $20 per person, $35 per couple or $140 per table of eight. Ticket prices at the door are $25 per person. Seating is limited, and you must be 21 years of age or older to attend. Food will be provided by Port Cape and The Branding Iron, and a dance will follow the races. Heroes and Legends Air Festival takes off at Cape airport

The Heroes and Legends Air Festival will be June 19 and 20 at the Cape Girardeau Regional Airport. This year's Air Festival will feature the U.S. Navy Blue Angels and other performers. Gates open at 9 a.m. and the opening ceremonies will start at 11 a.m. June 19. For ticket information, visit www.capeairfestival.com.
