Cultural festival in Cobden, Ill.
The first P'urheepecha Festival will be June 20 in Cobden, Ill. The P'urhepecha are an indigenous group that has migrated to the Midwest from Michoacan province in Mexico. For the past four decades, residents of Michoacan have come to work in the orchards of Union County, Ill. The Michoacan Migrant Club, Village of Cobden and FEDECMI -- another organization for Michoacans in Illinois -- have organized the festival with live folk music, dancing, costumes, arts and crafts, food and educational material. The festival will be from 1 to 7 p.m. at the Cobden Community Park in Cobden.

Library holds Science Saturday
Hooked on Science guy Jason Lindsey will start his second series performance as a part of the Summer Reading Club at 11 a.m. June 19 at the Cape Public Library. Lindsey's event will be "Giant Bubbles." This event is free and open to children ages 6 to 12.
Family plans candlelight vigil
Family members are holding a candlelight vigil to mark the 45th anniversary of the disappearance of Elizabeth "Beth" Gill. A procession with prayers will be led by Brother David Migliorino from the old Mississippi River bridge overlook to Old St. Vincent's Church on Spanish Street. Family members and friends are welcomed to attend the event, which will last from 8 to 9 p.m. Event coordinators are asking participants to bring two candles to help light Beth's way home.
