Several Southeast Missouri State University agriculture students recently planted trees at the David M. Barton Agriculture Research Center (ARC) at Gordonville, Mo., as part of Earth Day and Arbor Day activities. Dr. Indi Braden, assistant professor of agriculture, and Dr. Michael Aide, chair of the Department of Agriculture at Southeast, worked with the Natural Resource Conservation Service, Missouri Department of Conservation and the Farm Service Agency. The volunteers teamed up to help establish a riparian buffer zone at the ARC. According to the news release on Southeast Missouri State University website, riparian buffer areas are designed to aid in soil conservation and improve water quality along streams.
