Learning briefs 7/22/10

Scholarships

The following graduates of Scott City High School received scholarships:

* Taylor Gilmer received the Regent's Scholarship from Southeast Missouri State University and the Jeff Konrad Memorial scholarship.

* Elizabeth Glastetter received a scholarship to attend the National Academy of Beauty Arts in Missouri, where she will major in cosmetology.

* Marshall Glaus received the Imagine America Scholarship. He plans to attend Universal Technical Institute in Texas and major in diesel mechanics.

* Rianna Hester received the Mark Coomer Memorial scholarship. Hester plans to attend Southeast Missouri State University and major in business management.

* Kristen Keesee received the Shirley Coleen Memorial Scholarship and plans to attend Southeast Missouri State University majoring in criminal justice.

* Ashley Kennedy received the Future Teachers of America Scholarship, Community Teacher's of America Scholarship and the Kiwanis Scholarship. Kennedy plans to major in early childhood education in the fall at Mineral Area Community College.

* Shawn Lee received the SEMO Electric Scholarship and plans to major in auto mechanics at Mineral Area Community College.

Honors, achievements

* Andrew Maurer of Cape Girardeau was named to the spring honor's list at Concordia University in Mequon, Wis. He is majoring in environmental science studies.
