David and Carrie Gelwicks of Butler, Pa., announce the engagement of their daughter, Sarah Marie Gelwicks, to Cory Allen McElrath. He is the son of Jerry and Dreda McElrath of Jackson.

Gelwicks is a 2002 graduate of St. Mary Catholic Central High School in Monroe, Mich. She received mechanical engineering degrees from the University of Notre Dame and Purdue University. She is an engineer with Sargent and Lundy in Wilmington, Del.

McElrath is a 2001 graduate of Jackson High School. He received aerospace engineering degrees from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and Notre Dame. He is an engineer with Boeing Co. in Philadelphia, Pa.

An Oct. 23 wedding is planned at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart on the Notre Dame campus in South Bend, Ind.
