The Southeast Missouri Hospital Auxiliary recently honored Bob and Alene Matthews of Cape Girardeau with the Ilena Aslin Award for their contributions as hospital volunteers. The Ilena Aslin Award was established to pay tribute to Ilena's dedicated service to the hospital and the auxiliary. Bob and Alene joined the auxiliary in 1993. Since then, the couple have contributed more than 11,500 hours of volunteer service to the hospital. Alene has helped with fundraisers, blood drives and educational services, as well as serving as a lobby greeter and working in the waiting rooms of the cardiothoracic, intensive care and surgery units. Bob has helped with fundraisers, blood drives and educational services. He also serves as a lobby greeter and helps with patient registration. Bob serves on the hospital foundation's board of directors and assists with fundraising for that branch of the hospital family. In 2011, he will serve as auxiliary treasurer.
