Recently the Golden Needle/Sewing Basket in Cape Girardeau allowed the local River Heritage Quilt Guild to use their class space to make pillowcases for Children's Hospital as part of the ConKerr Cancer national pillowcase effort. The ConKerr Cancer program started in 2002 when Cindy Kerr's son was diagnosed with cancer in 2002. During his stay there she began making pillowcases to brighten up his hospital room and to put a smile on his face. He loved it and since then ConKerr Cancer has been working toward fulfilling the goal of making hospital stays as pleasant as possible for chronically ill children and their parents. Pillowcase makers pictured are Darla Snider, Cheral Benthal, Joan Meyer, Kim Stueve, Linda Tansil, and Joyce Holloway. You can read more about the ConKerr Cancer campaign at http://www.conkerrcancer.org/. You can see more picures from the pillowcase making event at http://www.riverquilters.org/photos/pill.
