2 cups shortening

1 teaspoon soda

1 tablespoon white syrup

3 eggs

5 cups of flour

1 cup of nuts

1 cup of maraschino cherries (green and red) chopped and drained very well

1 cup chopped dates

2 teaspoon vanilla

Cream shortening, sugar, then add all other ingredients one at a time and mix thoroughly. When mixed, make 3 or 4 rolls and wrap in wax paper and store in the refrigerator. Slice and bake on cookie sheet. Bake at 375 degrees about 15 minutes. Don't overbake, the cookies will keep several weeks before or after baking.
