Cindy Peterson of Yucaipa, Calif., announces the engagement of her daughter, Kimberly J. Valentine, to Jason Ian Vails, both of Jackson. He is the son of Peggy Kinder of Cape Girardeau and Danny Vails Sr. of Jackson.

Valentine is employed at Red Lobster. She plans to pursue a degree in criminal justice this fall.

Vails is a combat veteran in the U.S. Army, currently with the National Guard. He is pursuing a bachelor's degree in criminal justice. He is employed at Red Lobster.

An April 28 wedding is planned at The Venue in Cape Girardeau.
