SportsCare, Jackson teams fight cancer

Southeast SportsCare partnered with the Jackson High School fall sports teams to create "Champions Against Cancer Week," which was held Sept. 26 to 30 to raise money for the fight against cancer and help fund the school's fall sports programs. Nearly $3,500 was raised from the sale of "Champions Against Cancer" T-shirts and other fundraisers. Of that amount, more than $1,300 has been donated to the Southeast Cancer Center. Jackson High School coaches and Southeast SportsCare recently presented the check to the SoutheastHEALTH Foundation as student athletes and SportsCare staff looked on. Ronald McDonald House Charities donates to Orchard Elementary

Orchard Elementary School in Jackson has received $3,200 from the Ronald McDonald House Charities to purchase laptops for the third grade. The students will use the laptops for a variety of classes including reading, word work and math while increasing their computer skills. SoutheastHEALTH donates to Cancer Center garden project

The SoutheastHEALTH Auxiliary recently donated $10,500 to SoutheastHEALTH to help fund the garden project at the Southeast Cancer Center. The auxiliary, in cooperation with the SoutheastHEALTH Foundation, raised the money from last month's "Just Drop It 'Fore' a Cause!" golf ball drop at Bent Creek Golf Course and Country Club in Jackson. GRACES (United Way) donates to BackPack for Fridays program

The Southeast Missouri Food Bank has teamed up with United Way's GRACES Women's Council to provide 47 children and their families with food every weekend. Children at Jefferson and Clippard elementary schools in the Cape Girardeau School District will receive food through the BackPacks for Friday program. During the 2011-2012 school year, the service is being expanded to Clippard Elementary School.
