Mo. Art Education Association recognizes Orr

Ruth Ann Orr, principal of Alma Schrader Elementary School, received the Missouri Art Education Association's "Heart of Art Appreciation Award." She was recognized for her award at the February Cape Girardeau School Board meeting. Orr has worked for the Cape Girardeau School District her entire career in education, which began in 1982 as a teaching assistant. Her first teaching position was as a sixth-grade teacher at Alma Schrader, then as a counselor at Washington School. She moved to the district central administrative office, working in special services, before assuming her current position.

SEMO students take first at competition

A group of Southeast Missouri State University business students won first place in the 2012 Network of International Business Schools Worldwide Case Competition held Feb. 26 through March 2 in Rotterdam, Netherlands. Members of the Southeast team were Elizabeth Maldonado of Scott City.; Mitchell Brunson of Springfield, Ill.; and Deanna Dippold of Thebes, Ill,; and Egbar Ozenkoski of St. Louis. Southeast is the first American school to win the NIBS Worldwide Case Competition. As the winning school, the team receives an automatic bye into the championship round, to which 10 teams will be invited next year in Belgium.
