Warchild donates $9,500 to St. Jude

Warchild Riding Group returned from its eighth annual weekend trip to Memphis, Tenn., where a few of the nearly 100 members delivered St. Jude Children's Research Hospital a check for $9,500. The group's annual donation to St. Jude depends on the hard work of the members and the generosity of their supporters. Annually the riding group plans a poker run in the spring, along with their big fundraiser the first weekend in June, called "Rebel Yell." Throughout the year members sell coloring books for $5 each. All funds raised during these three activities goes directly to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. This year Warchild members had also saved more than two 55-gallon drums' worth of aluminum can pull tabs. Once recycled, the cash received is used to pay for dialysis. Each tab is worth three minutes on the lifesaving machines.

During the July meeting of the Seabee Veterans of America, a check for $6,200 for the Shriners Children's Hospital in St. Louis was presented to Ron Clark of the Shriners. The money comes from the annual raffle. First prize went to Dennis Coomer of Cape Girardeau, second prize to James Eakes of Jackson and third prize to Tom Childers of Millersville. Many people supported the Seabees by purchasing raffle tickets, therefore enabling the children to acquire much needed medical care. All of the money goes for these children.
