The VintageNOW4 benefit fashion show is scheduled for 6 p.m. Oct. 22 at The Venue in Cape Girardeau. Proceeds will benefit the Safe House for Women and is presented by Pastimes Antiques and Rustmedia. The theme is "The Great Gatsby" and will feature vintage clothing from the Roaring '20s with a modern twist. Last year's event drew 900-plus people and raised more than $40,000 to assist women who are victims of domestic violence. Ticket price will be announced later. The Cape Girardeau Girl Scouts are holding a hygiene-item drive for area children in need. On Saturday, Girl Scouts will place hot pink bags throughout neighborhoods with a list of needed items, including: toothpaste, shampoo, bar soap, toothbrushes, conditioner, shower gel, deodorant and mouthwash. Participants are asked to place the items in bags and set them by their door to be picked up after 8 a.m. April 20. Items also can be dropped off at the Southeast Missouri Food Bank, US Bank branch offices in Cape Girardeau and Allure Salon. The annual Soap Box derby is scheduled for 8 a.m. May 4 at Blanchard Elementary School in Cape Girardeau. The event is sponsored by Cape Girardeau Rotary Club and SoutheastHEALTH.
The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services will conduct a workshop for food vendors and producers of foods sold at farmer's markets from 8 a.m. to noon April 18 at the Cape Girardeau Conservation Nature Center. The Illinois State Archaeological Society is holding the annual Indian Artifact Show to be held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at World Shooting and Recreational Complex on Illinois Route 4, near Sparta, Ill. The All About Babies and Children Expo is set for noon to 4 p.m. April 27 at the Osage Centre in Cape Girardeau. Admission is $5. There will be activities and information about services for babies, children and families.
The second annual Jacque Waller 5k run is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. June 1 at Shawnee Park in Cape Girardeau. The run will be followed by a one-mile family walk.
