Meals With Friends, which takes place at noon at the Salvation Army, has the following menu this week:

  • Wednesday: Chicken and rice, corn, fruit and dessert
  • Thursday: Mostaccioli with ground beef, corn, fruit and dessert
  • Friday: Leftovers

Following is the Meals With Friends menu for the week of July 27 through 31:

  • Monday: Baked chicken, macaroni and cheese, corn, fruit and dessert
  • Tuesday: Shepherd's pie, corn, fruit and dessert
  • Wednesday: Mostaccioli, corn, fruit and dessert
  • Thursday: Beanie wieners, corn, fruit and dessert
  • Friday: Leftovers

Genealogical Society to meet July 28

The Cape Girardeau County Genealogical Society will meet at 7 p.m. July 28 at the new Cape Girardeau County History Center, 102 S. High St. in Jackson, the former Andrew Jackson Bridal Company location. Carla Jordan will give a program on the new museum and research center, which also hosts classes, book signings, rotating exhibits and a gift shop. Refreshments will be served. The society meets bimonthly on the fourth Tuesday. Nonmembers are welcome at all meetings. Membership is $10 per year.

Chamber music concert to benefit CASA

A chamber music concert, featuring Juliette Buchanan Rutledge, a professional harpist wit the Tulsa Symphony Orchestra, Olga McNeill on flute and Valerie Stagaman on piano, will take place from 7 to 8 p.m. July 24 at Old St. Vincent's Church in downtown Cape Girardeau. The concert will benefit CASA -- Court Appointed Special Advocates -- of Southeast Missouri; there is a suggested ticket donation of $20. United Way to offer tours of partner facilities

United Way of Southeast of Southeast Missouri will host two tours highlighting four of its funded partners' facilities, the first on July 28 and the second on Aug. 13. The tours are designed to allow donors and volunteers to have a firsthand look at the programs of the agency, with a staff-guided tour. The July 28 tour will depart from United Way at 9 a.m. and visit to the Safe House for Women and The Salvation Army, returning to United Way at noon. The Aug. 13 tour will depart from United Way at 1 p.m. and tour Lutheran Family and Children's Services and Habitat for Humanity, returning to United Way at 4 p.m. More information is available by contacting Nicholle Hinkle at nicholle.hinkle@unitedwayofsemo.org or 573-334-9634.

Car cruise, craft fair set Aug. 8

A car cruise and craft fair will be held Aug. 8 at the East Perry County Fairgrounds in Altenburg, Missouri. Street-legal vehicles are invited to participate; car registration, $10, will take place from 10 a.m. to noon with the cruise at 1 p.m. The craft fair will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with registration from 8 to 10 a.m. and a $20 booth fee. Food, soda and water will be available. Raffle tickles, $10, will be sold for several prizes including Cardinals baseball tickets, a Brinkman charcoal smoker, a car detailing package and a care-care kit. Crafters interested in participating may call 573-576-3105 for a booth rental contract. Event proceeds will benefit the Washington, D.C., trip of students of United in Christ Lutheran School in Frohna, Missouri.

Playhouse to host minion party

Discovery Playhouse, 502 Broadway in Cape Girardeau will host a minion party from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Friday. The movie "Despicable Me 2" will be screened, and there will be crafts, activities and food. Attendees are encouraged to wear minion costumes. Cost is $15 per person, and payment is required at time of registration, which may be done in person at the playhouse or by calling 573-335-7529.

Bereavement support group to meet

The Support Group for Bereaved Parents will meet at 6 p.m. July 27 in room 202 of St. Paul Lutheran Church, 223 W. Adams St. in Jackson. The group is open to bereaved parents throughout the community regardless of the age of the child at the time of death. Attendees should use the rear, fenced parking lot. Kelly schools registration set

Registration for students attending Kelly schools will take place the first week of August. Current middle school students will receive class schedules and locker assignments as parents complete registration forms; elementary classroom assignments will be posted in the elementary lobby. Registration will take place 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 3 through 7 and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Aug. 6. Those new to the district may come during these times to enroll and must have proof of residency, photo identification and name and address of last school attended.

Southeast Pediatrics to host children's event

Southeast Pediatrics will host a children's event from 6 to 7:30 p.m. July 30 at HealthPoint Fitness in Cape Girardeau, The event, called "Super Kids" is open to children ages 4 through 10 and includes the following activities:

  • Learning the importance outdoor activity without sunburn and bug bites.
  • Learning about the sugar content of beverages
  • Fitness demonstrations and activities.
  • Heathy eating

The first 200 participants will receive $10 Academy Sports gift cards for completing all activities. Parents and children also may visit with pediatricians and staff from Southeast Pediatrics, which includes Greg Cugini, Paul Leland, Kali Francis, Chelsea Grigery and Lindsay R. McVey.
