Central sets Splash Out Cancer event

Cape Central High School will host its annual Splash Out Cancer swim meet to help raise money for Dig for Life at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Cape Central High School Tiger Dome.

Scott City Christmas craft fair planned

St. Joseph Home and School will host a Christmas craft fair from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the school, 606 Sycamore St. in Scott City. Among the items for sale will be crafts, sports novelties and baked goods. Lunch will be served from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. with the menu including hot dogs, chili, baked potatoes, walking tacos and more. Brazeau to host Christmas walk

The Old-Fashioned Christmas Walk will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. Saturday in Brazeau, Missouri. The village will be decorated for the season, and the historic buildings will be open for tours. The Tea Room will have sandwiches, baked goods and refreshments available. A Christmas concert will be held at the church at 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. A craft fair and live nativity also will be part of the event. Monetary donations to the historical society will be accepted.

Bazaar, bake sale and dinner scheduled

A Christmas bazaar, bake sale and chili dinner will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 6 at the senior center in Perryville, Missouri. Lunch will include chili, side dishes, dessert and beverage for $5. Donations of Christmas items for the bazaar will be accepted from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday, while donations of baked goods will be accepted the day of the sale.

Blood drive planned in Farrar

An American Red Cross blood drive, hosted by the Lions Club of Altenburg, Missouri, will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Dec. 7 in the gymnasium of Salem Lutheran School in Farrar, Missouri.

Jackson church to host family event

Families with young children are invited to attend a free Christmas event from 9 to 11 a.m. Dec. 12 at St. Paul Lutheran School, 216 S. Russell St. in Jackson. The event, which will include a live nativity, arts and crafts, Christmas activities, snacks and door prizes, is sponsored by the St. Paul Early Childhood Task Force.

Candlelight service scheduled

A candlelight service of Christmas readings and carols will be held at 3 p.m. Dec. 13 at Hill of Peace Lutheran Church on Perry County Route 304 in Friedenberg, Missouri. The Rev. Matthew Marks, pastor at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Perryville, Missouri, will lead the service, and the Immanuel Lutheran Church Men's Choir will provide music. Refreshments will be served after the service.

Lung-cancer screenings scheduled

Saint Francis Medical Center will provide free lung-cancer screenings on Dec. 17 to people ages 50 through 74 who are heavy smokers, former smokers or otherwise at risk. High-risk patients will be screened using low-radiation CT scan technology and notified of results within one week. No preparation is required, but patients must be preregistered. Church plans Christmas concert

Grace United Methodist Church in Cape Girardeau will host a holiday concert, "Christmas at Grace," at 7 p.m. Dec. 20. The concert will feature the 15-member Grace Notes Bell Choir and the church's 20-member Chancel Choir performing songs including "Sing We Now of Christmas," "All I Want for Christmas Is You," "Rise Up Shepherd," "Jingle Bell Rock," "I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day" and more.

Seniors offered heart health screenings

Saint Francis Medical Center is offering Cape Girardeau County residents 60 years and older free heart health screenings, through funding from the county's Senior Citizens' Services Fund Board. Blood is taken by a finger stick, and participants will receive results in 15 minutes. Results will be sent to the patient's primary care doctor. No appointment or referral is needed. Screenings are done the first and third Wednesdays of the month from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. in the Saint Martha Conference Center, Entrance 8. A 10- to 12-hour fast is required. The Perry County Senior Centers are hosting a canned food drive to provide emergency meals for the homebound to have on hand in the event of inclement weather that may prohibit the delivery of meals. Bags of two meals for 75 clients will be prepared. Donations of single-serve cans of chili, tuna, fruits, vegetables and canned milk would be appreciated before Dec. 16, and may be dropped off at the Perry County Senior Center in Perryville, Missouri, from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday.
