More than 500 people participated in the Cape Girardeau Out of the Darkness Walk at North Cape County Park to raise money for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, the vision of which is to create a world without suicide. These walks honor loved ones lost to suicide, raise funds, build awareness and help prevent suicide. The Cape Girardeau walk, which took place in October, raised more than $15,000, of which $1,215 was raised by Community Counseling Center's team. Penne James, CCC's medical records manager, was CCC's highest fundraiser at $600.
