German Christmas service today

The Historic Hanover Lutheran Church at 2949 Perryville Road in Cape Girardeau is hosting a German Christmas service at 3 p.m. today. Students of Fred Poston, instructor of German, will read the Christmas story from Luke 2:1-7. Hymns will be sung in German and in English. Fellowship and refreshments will follow in the meeting room of Hanover Church, across the road.

Lutheran Heritage Center exhibits Christmas trees

The Lutheran Heritage Center and Museum in Altenburg, Missouri, is featuring an exhibit of more than 40 themed Christmas trees as well as Christmas collections and German Christmas artifacts. New this year are a jingle-bell and letters-to-heaven tree and a tree of German lace. The museum is open daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and until 8 p.m. Thursdays in December; it will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. during the Christmas Country Church Tour, which takes place Dec. 17 and 18. Delta senior citizens to meet

Delta Senior Citizens will meet at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Delta Community Center for a Christmas party, featuring a Christmas card exchange. Musical entertainment will be provided by John Schott. Toy collection scheduled Thursday, Friday

Marine Corps League 1081 and River Radio's 24-hour toy collection for Toys for Tots will be from 5 p.m. Thursday until 5 p.m. Friday at Schnucks in Cape Girardeau. Also welcome will be donations of batteries and money; all donations will remain local.

Craft fair Saturday in Delta

The City of Delta will host a craft fair from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Delta Community Center.

Christmas musical event scheduled Dec. 13

Centenary United Methodist Church and Westminster Presbyterian Church will present a free musical event, "One Silent Night," at 5 p.m. Dec. 13 at Centenary, 300 N. Ellis St. in Cape Girardeau. Created by composer Pepper Choplin, the cantata is described as a "Christmas ballad of love and joy" and will be performed by a combined choir under the direction of Mike Dumey and featuring Trudy Lee, Elizabeth Shelton, Andrew Chronister, Beverly Rees and others.

Blood donation opportunities scheduled

The American Red Cross has scheduled the following blood donation opportunities. Those who come to donate Dec. 23 through Jan. 3 will receive a long-sleeve Red Cross T-shirt, while supplies last.
