James Tomik of Naples, Florida, and Rhonda Shedron of St. Louis announce the engagement of their daughter, Rachael Tomik, to Matthew Unverferth, both of St. Louis. Matthew is the son of Michael and Gayle Unverferth of Cape Girardeau.

Rachael graduated from Parkway North High School in 2002. She received a bachelor's degree in political science and sociology from the University of Missouri in 2006 and a master's degree in secondary school counseling from the University of Missouri St. Louis in 2014. She is a counselor at Fox C-6 School District Antonia Middle School.

Matthew is a 2004 graduate of Notre Dame Regional High School. He received a bachelor's degree in business management from Columbia College in 2009. He is a craft account manager at Summit Distributing.

A Jan. 23 wedding is planned at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Cape Girardeau.
