Perry County fiction series premiere set

All are welcome to meet Ann Meyer Hazelwood, author of “The Forgiving Quilt,” from noon to 3 p.m. today at the Lutheran Heritage Center and Museum, 75 Church St. in Altenburg, Missouri. The author meet-and-greet will be in the center’s new Family Research Library Room. Bridal and Prom Expo today

The 2016 Bridal and Prom Expo will be from noon to 4 p.m. today at the Osage Centre, 1625 N. Kingshighway in Cape Girardeau. An array of vendors will be present, including caterers, photographers, travel agencies and more. There will be a fashion show at 2:30 p.m. displaying gowns from Alyce, Angela & Alison, Blush, Jovani and Terani Couture and tuxedos from Paul Morrell and Vera Wang.

Jackson Baseball League sign-ups open

The City of Jackson Park system is holding open sign-ups for the Jackson Baseball League for children ages 5 through 12 from Feb. 1 to March 9. To register a player, coach, umpire or sponsor, pick up a registration form during operating hours from the Jackson Civic Center, 381 E. Weekly fish frys set through March

Fish frys in Cape Girardeau:

Fish and chicken frys will be held from 4:30 to 7 p.m. on Fridays in February and March, including Feb. 5, 12, 19, 26 and March 4, 11 and 18, at the Eagles Activity Center, 321 N. Spring St. in Cape Girardeau. The menu will include fried fish and chicken, sides, dessert and drinks. Dinner will cost $10 for adults and $5 for children 6 and younger.

Fish frys in Scott City:

The Knights of Columbus will host all-you-can-eat fish and chicken frys from 4 to 7 p.m. on Fridays in February and March, including Feb. 5, 12, 19, 26 and March 4, 11 and 18, at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 28745 Highway 61 in Scott City. The menu will include catfish, homemade slaw, baked beans, potato wedges, homemade hush puppies and drinks. Dinner will cost $11 for ages 12 and older, $5 for ages 6 to 11 and is free for children 5 and younger. Carryout dinners also will be available for $11. All proceeds will benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Cardinal Glennon Children’s Medical Center and local parishes.

Church to host First Saturday Night Sing

Southside Baptist Church will host an open mic night gospel-sing at 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, at the church, 805 Hackberry St. in Cape Girardeau. All community members are invited to participate in the evening of entertainment and worship. Refreshments will be served in the fellowship hall, and attendees can bring a refreshment to share if they wish.

St. Ambrose to host breakfast

A breakfast, sponsored by the St. Ambrose Men’s Club, will be held from 7:30 to 11 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 7, at St. Ambrose Parish Center, 418 S. 3rd St. in Chaffee, Missouri. The menu will include whole hog sausage, eggs and biscuits and gravy. Admission is $7 for adults, $3 for children ages 6 to 12 and free for children 5 and younger.

Delta Senior Citizens to meet

The Delta Senior Citizens will meet at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 10, at the Delta Community Center. Valentine’s Day will be the theme for the meeting, centered on fun and fellowship with an exchange of Valentine cards. Ryan Evans of Modern Technology will present a program on scams. Valentine’s Dinner and Dance arranged

A Valentine’s dinner and dance has been scheduled to help raise funds to grant a wish for local 12-year-old acute myeloid leukemia survivor Lorelai Clubb. Dinner will be served between 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. with a dance following at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 13, at the Eagles Activity Center, 321 N. Spring St. in Cape Girardeau. Dinner will include a choice of smoked pork steak or chicken with salads, sides and desserts, and the music will be provided by Paragon. Tickets for the event are $20 for the dinner and dance or $7 for the dance only. The proceeds will go to Make-A-Wish Missouri to help Lorelai’s wish come true. Breakfast and bake sale planned

A breakfast and bake sale event is scheduled from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 14, at the St. Joseph Church Hall, 138 St. Joseph Lane in Apple Creek, Missouri. The menu will include sausage, scrambled eggs, fried potatoes, biscuits and gravy, homemade coffee cake, fruit and assorted beverages. Tickets cost $7 for adults, $3 for children ages 5 through 12 and are free for children 5 and younger. Carry out meals will be available, and all monetary gifts will be matched by the Western Catholic Union.

Sports concussion seminar scheduled

The Brain Injury Association of America will host the annual “Sports Concussions: Facts, Fallacies and New Frontiers” seminar from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 18, at the Osage Centre, 1625 N. Kingshighway in Cape Girardeau. Registration for the seminar will begin at 7:45 a.m. The free seminar will help bring awareness to and educate attendees about sports-related concussions. Sausage breakfast to be served

A sausage breakfast will be served from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 21, at the Scott City Knights of Columbus Hall. The breakfast will include all-you-can-eat sausage links, pancakes, biscuits and gravy, scrambled eggs and drinks. Admission will cost $7 for adults, $3.50 for children ages 6 to 12, and children younger than 5 get in free.
