Job fair planned for Cape Girardeau

A job fair will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Aug. 24, at the Cape Girardeau VFW Post 3838, 1049 N. Kingshighway in Cape Girardeau. The fair is open to all job seekers, especially veterans and their spouses. Job seekers are encouraged to bring plenty of copies of their resumes and to dress for success. Fundraiser set for Marine Corps marathon teams

A fundraiser for the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 24, at Chick-fil-A, 3333 Gordonville Road in Cape Girardeau. Customers must mention the fundraiser for money to be donated. Funds will help support the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society Marine Corps marathon team.

Flourish Women's Summit scheduled

The Southeast Missourian and rustmedia, in conjunction with Flourish magazine, will host the Flourish Magazine Women's Summit from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 25, at the Osage Centre, 1625 N. Kingshighway in Cape Girardeau. The half-day event is open to the public and will provide area women the chance to hear from influential women in business, philanthropy, education, health care, government and the arts through lively, interactive sessions. The day will begin with a light breakfast and feature breakout sessions with local speakers and panelists, followed by lunch and a keynote address from Gigi Butler, nationally acclaimed entrepreneur and founder of Gigi's Cupcakes. Marble Hill Optimist rodeo planned

The Marble Hill Optimist Club SEMO Rodeo Association rodeo is scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, at the Optimist horse arena behind the Marble Hill fire station on Highway 34 in Marble Hill, Missouri. Admission for the event will cost $6 for those 11 years old and older, $3 for children ages 8 to 10 and will be free for children 7 and younger. Rodeo event categories include: pee wee barrels and poles for children 8 years and younger; junior barrels and poles for those 13 years and younger; senior barrels and poles for those ages 14 to 18; adult barrels and poles for those 19 years and older; goat tying for children 13 and younger, those 14 to 18 and adults; calf riding for 10 and younger; steer riding for ages 11 to 14; junior bulls for ages 14 to 18; open bulls for those 19 and older; chute dogging for ages 14 to 18; open chute dogging; calf roping for ages 14 to 18; open calf roping; junior breakaway for children 13 and younger; senior breakaway for ages 14 to 18; open breakaway; and team roping.

Trinity Lutheran School to host fish fry

Trinity Lutheran School will host an all-you-can-eat fish fry from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 28, at the school, 55 N. Pacific St. in Cape Girardeau. Flag football league team registration open

The Arena Building and Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department are accepting teams for the 2016 Fall Adult Flag Football League. The format is seven on seven with one to three divisions. Teams are forming for men's, women's and coed teams. There will be a manager meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 1, at the Osage Centre, 1625 N. Kingshighway. Each team will cost $250 to register. Free gospel sing to be held

A free gospel sing with Steve Hess and the Southern Salvation will be held as part of the Trinity Assembly of God annual homecoming at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 4, at the church, 27186 State Highway 3 in Olive Branch, Illinois. The event is free and open to the public.
