ENGAGEMENTS: HERBST-SMITH

Mr. and Mrs. Robert Herbst of Cape Girardeau announce the engagement of their daughter, Melissa Jill Herbst, to Truman Lee Smith. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Phelps and Truman Smith of Caruthersville, Mo.

Herbst received a bachelor of science degree in child development from Southeast Missouri State University, and is pursuing a master's degree in child development at Southeast. She is a professional development coordinator with Educare.

Smith is a graduate of Caruthersville High School, and attended Southeast University. He is self-employed with Tru Construction.

An April wedding is planned.
