Eric and Jean Gooden of Cape Girardeau announce the engagement of their daughter, Catherine Jennifer Gooden, to Dr. Justin Paul Meschler of Santa Barbara, Calif. He is the son of Lori Meschler of Santa Barbara, and Paul Meschler of San Diego, Calif.

Gooden is a 1995 graduate of Central High School, received a bachelor of arts degree in chemistry from St. Louis University, and is attending St. Louis University School of Medicine.

Meschler received a Ph.D. in May from St. Louis University, and is completing medical school training.

A June 24, 2001, wedding is planned at Botanical Gardens in St. Louis.
