Smith is a 1988 graduate of Central High School, and attended Southeast Missouri State University. He is employed at Lowes Home Improvement Warehouse and by the city of Cape Girardeau.

A June 29 wedding is planned at Old McKendree Chapel in Jackson, Mo.
