Redmud Records recording artist Robert Hoyt will kick off his fall tour with a concert Thursday, September 12 at 8 p.m., in the Ballroom of the University Center at SEMO. The concert is free and the public is invited.

Hoyt has received critical acclaim for songwriting and his distinctive style that has been characterized as "folk/Americana with an edge." His music displays a strong social conscience, keen observation and a refreshing wit. In addition to his three CD's, Hoyt's music has been featured in various compilations with the likes of Hank Williams, Jr., REM, Buffy Sainte-Marie and Dan Fogelberg.

Thursdays concert is the latest installment in the University's Regional Heritage Series. The Heritage Series is sponsored by the Communication Department and has provided the campus and community a unique opportunity to see significant local, regional and national personalities. The musical events have been among the most popular performances and have featured national caliber artists. Event organizers are enthusiastic about Hoyt's visit, describing Hoyt as "a gifted performer whose music has something important to say."

Hoyt will be appearing throughout the area following the SEMO engagement.

On the 13th, at 6:30 p.m., Hoyt will play at the Cape Girardeau Courthouse Gazebo as part of Old Town Cape's concert series; the following night he will appear at the Yellow Moon in Cobden, IL, and on Sunday the 15th, he will appear at the River Ridge Winery in Commerce starting at 2 p.m. In addition, Hoyt will tape a program to be featured on Public Radio's "Your Folk Connection.

No reservations are required for the University performance.
