Local C.A.R.s Attend State Convention
Members of the Byrd Settlement Society recently attended the 59th annual State Conference of the Missouri State Society Children of the American Revolution (M.S.S.C.A.R.) in Lake Ozark, Mo.
The meeting included business sessions, a pizza party, and a tour of the Bagnell Dam History Museum at Willmore Lodge .
Morgan Lake, Missouri Senior State President opened the meeting for Ciara Gunter, State President, who presided. Local members serving the state were Jack Lake, state chaplain; Chandler Short, state corresponding secretary; Madison Dush, public relations chairman; Pete Lake, veterans chairman; and Karsten Short, C.A.R./DAR/SAR/S.R. relations chairman. Patsy Johnson, Lori Short, and Thad Lake are serving as Senior leaders at the state level.
Byrd Settlement won several awards, including the first place in the contest for the State President's Project, "C.A.R.ing for Fisher House Kids." Funds raised for the project are being donated to the Fisher House being built at the Jefferson Barracks VA Medical Center in St. Louis. Fisher House provides lodging to the families of veterans undergoing medical treatment at the medical center.
The Children of the American Revolution is the oldest patriotic youth organization in the United States. Membership is open to anyone who is under the age of 21 and who is a lineal descendant of a person who rendered aid to the cause of American independence. For further information, contact C.A.R.
