PCMS class treated to lunch by McDonald's

Sixth graders at Perry County Middle School had a special delivery on March 27 when Perryville McDonald's treated the students to lunch.

Darlene Hudson, activities director at Perryville McDonald's and manager Don Webb brought the burgers and fries to the students in appreciation for their support of the Ronald McDonald House. Perryville McDonald's is owned by Terri and Jerry Flagg.

The sixth graders collected soda pop tabs from December to February as a service project for the Ronald McDonald House. Two community time classes, Mary Richardson's and Tammy Sadler's, tied for the top amount collected with 10 pounds each. In total, the sixth grade donated 31 pounds of tabs.

The Ronald McDonald House program provides a "home-away-from-home" for families so they can stay close by their hospitalized child at little or no cost.

Ronald McDonald Houses collect pop tabs instead of entire aluminum cans because it is more hygienic to store tabs than cans, and collection and storage is easier. The program is an easy way for people of all ages to support RMHC and know they are making a difference for families and children.

After the tabs are collected, the local RMHC Chapter brings the collection to local recycling centers, where they are weighed to determine their value. The recycling center then sends the local RMHC Chapter a check for the total value.
