James Timmerman, a veteran of the 15th Army Air Corps during World War II, flew in a B-24 airship in Europe out of Torretta, Italy. He flew with the 484 bomber group, and the Tuskekee Airmen. James Timmerman

James Timmerman, a veteran of the 15th Army Air Corps during World War II, flew in a B-24 airship in Europe out of Torretta, Italy. He flew with the 484 bomber group, and the Tuskekee Airmen. On his 31st mission, his plane was hit by flak, and he parachuted behind enemy lines and was captured by the Nazis and became a prisoner of war at Stalag No. 4 and No. 1.

He was awarded the Air medal, Purple Heart, EAME, Victory, POW and WWII medals. He earned a silver star and one bronze star. He became a member of the Caterpillar Club. His unit received two presidential unit citations while being unescorted into enemy territory.

After the war he became a chief accountant in Washington, D.C., and Fort Sheraton in Chicago.

He was a resident of Cape Girardeau for many years.

He passed away in 1994. His friends always said that everyone always loved Jim.

His family would like to wish everyone a Happy Memorial Day.
