Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) Area Chairman Matt Jenkins honored Lynne Spriggs, CEO/Administrator for Chateau Girardeau, with the Department of Defense ESGR Patriot Award, and the ESGR Above and Beyond Award, in recognition of their extraordinary support of employees who serve in the National Guard and Reserve.

Chateau Girardeau was nominated for the award by Sergeant Andrew Lane of Jackson, a LPN at Chateau who also serves as a Company Intelligence Analyst with the 1438th Multi-Role Bridge Company, Missouri Army National Guard. Andrew states that he was employed with Chateau for only a short time before he was deployed. "They surprised me with a going away party, attended by all the employees who showed their patriotism and appreciation for my military service. While I was deployed, my wife, who is also a nurse at Chateau, was constantly asked about my well-being. Their support to her was very comforting. They are very supportive of their employees and families in the military."

The ESGR Patriot and Above and Beyond Awards were created by the US Department of Defense to publicly recognize individuals and businesses who provide outstanding patriotic support and cooperation to their employees, who like the citizen warriors before them, have answered their nation's call to serve. Supportive employers are critical to maintaining the strength and readiness of the nation's Guard and Reserve units. Employers are nominated by their military employees.
