A "yes" vote supports this proposal to establish limits on campaign contributions to candidates. I'm in support of Amendment 2 because watching million dollar contributions get thrown around in political races makes me uncomfortable and can take away the voices of the people most important, our constituents. This amendment is not perfect as written but it is a step in the right direction for a more fair, ethical and hopefully positive process.
A "yes" vote supports this proposal to increase taxes on cigarettes. I'm in opposition of Amendment 3. While the goal of this amendment has merit, and quality education is extremely important to me, raising taxes and putting taxpayer dollars in the hands of a Governor appointed commission does not give me hope that the funds collected will properly go towards their stated goal; helping children. I believe in accountable government and this amendment lacks clarity.
No matter which way "we" decide to go, (Fuel Tax, Tobacco Tax, Public-Private Partnerships? Toll-Roads? etc.) Missouri needs to generate more funding for transportation. We have 33,000 miles of roads, 7th largest in our nation and rank 47th in funding per mile. With other states investing in their infrastructure, Missouri could lose business if we fail to act. Fuel tax is our most transparent, straight forward funding for infrastructure.
Jobs and our economy are extremely important issues facing state government. Folks just want a job and a good economy to be able to save some money for retirement, education or a rainy day. We need to stop the creation of government rules, regulations and over reaching taxes that impede the progress of our farmers, entrepreneurs and business owners. Let them do what they do best which is create jobs and grow our economy.
