With a new year and new members, house color day and house games are happening at Guardian Angel School in Oran. The first house color day at Guardian Angel school was Tuesday, September 5. The first Tuesday of each month is dedicated to house color day. On this day, the students and staff of the 3 archangel groups wear their house color to school and celebrate the class Mass with one of the groups being in charge. St. Gabriel's house was in charge of Tuesday's Mass, with students from that group doing the reading, the responsorial psalm and the petitions. Normally, house games are conducted on the same day, but with the yard being mowed and the games planned for outside, the games were moved to Thursday, September 7.
Each student member of each house gets to participate in the games, with a few members getting to do double duty since the groups are not equal in numbers. St. Gabriel was on fire and won first place in game 1, Caterpillar, & game 2, potato sack race. They took second in game 3, the hula hoop flip ball. St. Michael's group came in second on game 1 and 2 and first on game 3. St. Raphael's group came in last place on each game.
Points are awarded to each group according to their win status. St. Gabriel received 20 points, St. Michael had 15 points, and St. Raphael received 10 points. Each house accumulates points throughout the year. Each quarter, the members of the house with the biggest percentage of points gets a dress down day. At the end of the school year, the members of the house with the biggest percentage at the end get an extra recess, special treat and dress down day. Points are awarded for politeness and good behavior, house game day winners, house color day 100% participation, etc. and points are deducted for inferior behavior.
