Team members representing the ten campuses of Cape Girardeau Public Schools kicked off their annual United Way Campaign this week, working to meet this year's goal of $24,000-- slightly more than district employees contributed last year. Individual employee support to United Way averaged $122.35 last year.

"Each year we look forward to our participation in United Way's campaign because we see ample evidence of the remarkable work the organization performs," Dr. Welker said. "United Way enriches the school district through its support of the Parent Liaison program at the junior and senior high schools, Middle School Cub Club transportation, Read to Succeed program, Backpacks for Friday initiative, School Age Community Grant and Children's Fund." In addition to public schools, United Way supports numerous community programs, such as Big Brothers Big Sisters and Boys and Girls Club, Welker added. Teresa Haubold chairs the district's 41-day campaign, which kicked off September 4.
