Lydia Reitzel and Jamie Hodge competed at the Missouri Junior Academy of Science competition held on the campus of the University of Missouri on April 13, 2012. Reitzel and Hodge were awarded a "Highly Superior" purple ribbon at the Southeast Missouri Junior Academy of Science competition on March 6, 2012 at Southeast Missouri State University to make them eligible to compete at the state level. Reitzel and Hodge competed in the Animal Science division with their "Peaceful or Punky Music for Porkier Pigs?" project. They presented a ten minute presentation followed by three minutes of questioning by the judges. They were awarded a "Highly Superior" purple ribbon; they were also the top presenters in the Animal Science division, making them eligible to compete against other top finalists from other divisions. They, again, had to present their ten minute presentation followed by three minutes of questioning by the judges. Reitzel and Hodge received the Junior Kirkpatrick Trophy Award, which recognizes the best paper in the Missouri Junior Academy of Science competition and $25. They also received a certificate for an outstanding Exemplary Middle School Paper in the Middle School Animal Science division. Reitzel and Hodge received another $25 for obtaining a "Highly Superior" purple ribbon. Reitzel and Hodge are eighth graders at Delta R-V School District and are taught Science by Rebecca Cook. Reitzel is the daughter of Lisa and Mark Reitzel. Hodge is the daughter of Connie and Eric Hodge.
