Two Perryville High School seniors were recently awarded with the Award of Excellence from the Missouri State High School Activities Association for their exemplary display of sportsmanship. They are Casey Brewer (left), daughter of Tim and Julie Brewer and Jason Thieret, son of David and Melissa Thieret. They are shown with PHS Athletic Director Jeff Steffens.
Administrators, coaches and fellow students at PHS selected Casey and Jason for this honor for their exemplary behavior, being a positive role model and for their outstanding display of sportsmanship through participation in interscholastic athletics.
In a letter from MSHSAA Communications Director Jason West, he stated, "The Missouri State High School Activities Association and the National Federation of State High School Associations are proud to congratulate you for your efforts and for being named for this special honor. We also thank you for representing your school, your teammates and high school sports in general so well by your actions and conduct in your interscholastic contests."
He went on to say that the MSHSAA firmly believes that positive role models positively influence the actions of others in the school -- fellow teammates, younger students, opponents and even spectators. By taking the responsible steps in displaying positive sportsmanship, they help to rekindle the spirit of citizenship and serve as positive representatives of the school and community.
